JJ Quinerly : A Mountaineer Legend
JJ Quinerly's journey at West Virginia University has truly been remarkable. From her immediate impact as a freshman to her current status as a seasoned leader, she has demonstrated exceptional skill and determination on the court. Achieving nearly 2,000 career points while being a vocal leader and a key contributor to her team's success is no small feat. During her Freshman season, Quinerly saw playing time in 30 games, making an immediate impact for the Lady Mountaineers. As the season quickly went, the true freshman made her way to the starting lineup in 12 of those 30 games. On March 9, 2021, Quinerly made her mark versus Kansas scoring a season high, 22 points, in a Mountaineer loss 65-47. Throughout her career at WVU she has grown into one of the nations best scorers, developing a smooth offensive game that involves her teammates every night. Quinerly has been an outstanding vocal leader for the Mountaineers, who are in prime position for a third-consecutive March Madness appearance.
Quinerly’s impressive statistics, particularly in her final season, highlight her role as one of the top scorers in the nation. Averaging over 20 points per game and showcasing her defensive prowess with multiple steals each game speaks volumes about her all-around game. Throughout her 4 years she will see the tournament 3 times, and yes….. that's right…. stay undefeated versus the hated rival up north, Pitt. The 5’8 senior has been on FIRE heading into March Madness, averaging 28ppg in her last four games. Quinerly and the Lady Mountaineers have been an absolute wagon this year currently sitting on a 24-7 record.
During Quinerly’s final stretch as a Mountaineer she will continue to etch her name in school history, and continue to add to her legacy. JJ averages 20.5 wins a year, which is tied for the most in Lady Mountaineer history. Quinerly's impact on WVU and her fans will be felt long after her college career ends, and her mantra of "once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer" resonates with many. Thank you, JJ, for giving us a hell of a 4 years.
